    Berkeley S04757 Volute Gasket — Pre-Cut (S-04757)

    The Berkeley S04757 gasket is a pre-cut volute gasket for Berkeley centrifugal pump service, equivalent to Berkeley part number S-04757. Cut from vellumoid fiber to seat cleanly against the volute face and compress evenly, it holds a positive seal through routine rebuilds without cold-flowing or tearing on removal.

    Volute gaskets are a wear item — any time a Berkeley pump comes apart for an impeller, wear plate, or mechanical seal replacement, the volute gasket should be replaced rather than reused. A compressed fiber gasket that has already taken a set will not re-seal reliably, and a weeping volute joint on an irrigation or transfer pump is a slow leak that gets blamed on the shaft seal.

    The Berkeley S04757 volute gasket is the case gasket in the 1-1/4″ Type B rebuild. Any time you’re in far enough to pull this gasket, the mechanical seal is already exposed — and a seal that has run against a worn sleeve will not re-seat. Doing the gasket alone means coming back for a second teardown.

    Complete the rebuild:

    •  PS-185 Mechanical Seal — 1-1/4″ shaft, 1.875″ × 0.437″ seat, Type N-11 (Type C/21). Nitrile, Viton, and SiC/SiC options.
    •  Berkeley Stainless Shaft Sleeve — the third wear item in this joint. Replace it with the seal, or the new faces wear early.
