Reading your nameplate — RS and RD, not R0 or RO

Worth checking before you order. On a worn or painted nameplate the model often reads as R03A31-BAR or RO3A31, and people order against that. There is no R0 or RO model — the first two characters are RS or RD:

• RS3A31-B — the 71 PSI ductile iron Roto-Prime

• RD3A31-B — the 144 PSI build

Applications

Roto-Prime pumps are self-priming centrifugals used where the pump sits above the liquid and has to pull its own prime — construction and site dewatering, industrial transfer, petroleum and bulk liquid handling, and municipal service. The mechanical seal and the lip seals go together at a standard service; a failed lip seal lets the bearing frame take water, which is a more expensive repair than the one you were doing.
